CESARIA EVORA

With 'Rogamar' Cesaria Evora has released her tenth album. Born in Capo Verde, Cesaria is influenced by the sounds of Africa, Portugal, England, salsa, samba, lundum and fado. While the sea is the main theme on 'Rogamar'  there's a strong duality in Cesaria's feelings for the sea: she both adores and fears it. But she also tells the tale of her own history and the colonial history of Africa: a history of slavery and suffering. The result is an exotic, melancholic and filmic sound.
New album “Rogamar” to be released on March 6, 2006
Yes, she’s still here! Cesaria Evora from Cabo Verde will release her tenth album. Cesaria is a true original, the musical equivalent of the place she was born. She’s influenced by the sounds of Africa, Portugal, England, salsa, samba, lundum and fado. The sea is a major theme on this album, also reflected in the title of the album. The word “Rogamar” comes from “rogar” (to pray) and “mar” (the sea). There’s a strong duality in Cesaria’s feelings for the sea: she both adores and fears it. But she also tells the tale of her own history and the colonial history of Africa: a history of slavery, of suffering.
